Twenty-five years after the fall of apartheid, South African went to the polls on May 8, 2019, in one of the most competitive national elections since the first multi-racial vote in 1994. In the country's sixth democratic general election, South African President's ruling ANC party retained its parliamentary majority but with diminished support, complicating efforts to revive the embattled party and the country's sluggish economic growth and record unemployment.
